Alan is a mediator and arbitrator, with a long background as a practising lawyer working on complex commercial and financial matters.

Alan Thomas
From joining Slaughter and May in 1993, he worked for a number of years in City law firms, advising on a broad range of company, commercial and financial transactions.
In 2000 he joined JPMorgan, where he advised on complex structured transactions involving major corporate counterparties and financial institutions. He later led a team of lawyers responsible for bespoke, high-value financial products, working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisers in demanding, fast-paced commercial environments.
Since leaving JPMorgan in 2023, Alan has qualified in dispute resolution and related disciplines. He is a CMC-registered mediator, accredited by both CEDR and the Society of Mediators. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is developing his practice as an arbitrator alongside his mediation work.
Alan’s professional background informs a calm, analytical and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution. Having spent many years working inside a large commercial organisation, he understands the pressures, constraints and decision-making dynamics faced by businesses and their advisers when disputes arise. His mediation practice is also informed by formal training in executive coaching, which supports effective communication, constructive engagement, and decision-making under pressure.
Alan’s focus is on helping parties resolve disputes efficiently, confidentially and with commercial realism.
